Assessment, Evaluation, and Research

Throughout my time in the CSP program I have had several experiences that have developed my assessment, evaluation, and research competency to an acceptable level.  In particular my performance in two courses, EDFI 6420: Research in Education and EDFI 6410: Statistics in Education, have provided me with the knowledge and skills to understand, and evaluate qualitative and quantitative research.  My work in EDFI 6410 has provided me fundamental knowledge to interpret statistical samples and regression analysis results.  Additionally, I learned about the strengths and relative challenges associated with qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods research in EDFI 6420.  I also have completed Institutional Review Board (IRB) training in EDFI 6420 which provided me with the knowledge to prepare a research proposal for approval.  Ultimately, my work in these two courses have provided me with the skills to examine literature and research articles with a more critical lens.

Additionally, in my internship experience as a Graduate Hall Director I regularly utilize evaluative surveys to inform my practice and improve the performance of staff members.  For example, in the December 2013 the annual resident feedback survey identified that residents were unaware of hall council.  As a result I advised the officers of hall council to create an innovative social media campaign that increased resident attendance at meetings.
